Objective:
I seek Gallery Representation
For a Body of alternative-process Photographic Prints
Max Paul Taylor
Self-taught Brut/Naïve Ambitious/Curious Dedicated/Resourceful
Five years ago I was a career Investment Banker thoughtfully parched of all creativity. Art, I believed, was a waste of time. How wrong I was. Art is everything.
I am unleashed. Across mediums and styles I explore. I seek a partner for career development of my unique photographic creations.
Liquid Light Photography
Elegant/Sexy/Dark/Mysterious
No one alive uses the techniques I do. It’s an amalgamation of alternative darkroom processes. A secret knowledge learned from forgotten books. Refined to my own approach. Large hand-made photographic prints on canvas, often imbued with color using paints, pigments, and homebrewed chemistry.
My photography has been featured Vogue to National Geographic. It is my most proficient medium combined with a unique process yielding incomparable results. I would challenge all to replicate.
The Future
Is big and bright. I prepare now for a solo exhibition at the Bushwick Darkroom (June) and head next to Germany for an artist residency at the Berlin Art Institute.
Cheers,
Max

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am self taught through constant experimentation
I am a writer and a poet, and I make visual art
I write dark comedy as essays
My poetry is more fun than secrets
My Art is surrealist in drawing, painting, and printmaking
I used to work in corporate finance
But a whale shark changed my life
Now I explore, in body and mind
Across mediums and ideas
The moment I decided to leave finance. That whaleshark is the size of a bus. A true leviathan.
Everything below is a photograph
Here’s a fun one -
Hypnotoad is the result of an aggressive experiment in silver gelatin printmaking. I was curious if this type of black magic could be applied onto a coat of oil paint and I took it upon myself to find this out.
It was all going so well until the final water bath, when to my horror, I watched my one-shot attempt built of patience, preparation and best-guess calculations began to lift from the canvas and flake away in the river of its final steps. My experiment was failing before my eyes, but what constitutes a failure? This is not what I hoped, not what I expected, but what can I learn?
The adhesion was weak. But how weak?
I pulled my piece from the water bath and started scratching. Testing the strength of adhesion in a tactile observation with no plan. It became compulsive. It felt wonderful, tearing into this beautifully flawed piece with my claws as it transformed and transmuted through this primal urge to destroy its failed perfection.
The Experiments continue. Oil Pastel over liquid light of my Shadow People?
How about my charcoal sketches photographed to slide film? Brought to life through light and chemistry.
Its amazing what photography can do. Light and Chemistry.
Made in-camera with minimal post production, The Shadow Project is my visual thesis in lighting design and up next to print. My catalog is endless. My output is extraordinary.
Cheers,
Max Taylor
